France – Saint Nazaire, september 30, 2020 – energiesdelamer.eu. The first steel sheet of the electrical substation for the offshore wind farm of Fécamp (Normandie, France) was cut today at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire (France).
Ordered by a consortium composed with EDF Renouvelables, Enbridge and wpd Offshore, this substation is designed and manufactured by Atlantic Offshore Energy (the Business Unit dedicated to Marine Energies from Chantiers de l’Atlantique) with its partners GE Grid Solutions and SDI (DEME Offshore).

The Fécamp susbstation will collect and transform the electricity produced by the 71 wind turbines of the Fécamp offshore wind farm (a total power ouput of nearly 500 MW) to transfer it to the shore network, while ensuring remote control of the farm.

The selected consortium brings together the expertise of :

. Atlantique Offshore Energy, in charge of the topside and jacket-type foundation design, manufacturing and commissioning

. GE Grid Solutions, in charge of high & medium voltage electrical equipment and protection control systems design, manufacturing and commissioning,

. and SDI, in charge of the transport and installation of these structures.

The delivery of the substation, whose construction mobilizes 400 people, is scheduled in 2022. The same consortium is currently building the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm electrical substation, to be commissioned in 2021.

« With the start of the construction of the Fécamp offshore wind farm electrical substation, we are taking a new step forward in the energy transition process of France and Europe. We are proud to be part of it, with all our industrial partners », stated Frédéric Grizaud, director of Atlantique Offshore Energy.
